Looking for Growth at the O2
On Thursday night, I was at Looking for Growth’s “Make or break” event at the O2. Looking for Growth is a movement which highlights observable failures of government such as graffiti on tubes and litter on streets in public spaces and sometimes takes vigilante action to highlight those failures such as by scrubbing graffiti off the tubes themselves as well as proposing legislation to deliver change (reform) and growth. Last year, one of the co-founders Mr. Lawrence Newport led a campaign and successfully got the XL bully dog added to the Dangerous Dogs list and effectively banned into the future, an animal which had been bred to get around the Dangerous Dog Act of 1991, bred to subvert a law based on categorical labels applied to animals rather than principles. Lawrence has a nose for what the public wants. Sounds like politics?
A Fast-Growing Movement
It’s a growing movement — last night Lawrence and Joe, two of the founders, said that it started last year-ish with the two of them pacing around a small apartment thinking about what to do about the failures they could see all around them. The movement hosted an extremely positive event at the O2 — the largest indoor arena in the UK. Let that sink in. I posit that if the attendees are not listened to, it may be a bigger movement by this time next year. These people are much more difficult to ignore than the working class because these are the smart, informed, tech and business people. They have their own megaphone. And they're turning up the volume so don't expect it to die down bro. Next year, it may require a weekend festival at Victoria Park. A festival of UK government failure. Will the elected government crack down on that as well to attempt to preserve its party's brand? What lies and smears might the government have to tell by then?
Idea: LFG Festival - UK leading the Western world on government failure
UK, leading the world on government failure! That wouldn’t look great for the government surely? What do we think then? Wait and see? See what the polls say? They’re not looking great for you Keir. Perhaps if not outright cancelled or banned by the government, by then our Digital IDs could be linked to our locations and Met Police could visit everyone afterwards and request an apology? What was the crime? Highlighting problems.
The National Trilemma - who are we?
The trilemma: Are we (I'm Irish but I've set up camp in the place and I'm quite attached to it now) a country who waits for a problem to happen and then sets about fixing it (reactive), are we (like Andy Lord in TfL - see below), a country which tells people observable problems they can see which affect them don't exist (liars), or are we a country who is capable of listening and adapting to problems (risk) in a proactive way?
Are we liars, reactive and fire-fighting or people who care who seek to prevent problems from happening?
TfL - a public institution?
Rather than correct the obvious failures or even acknowledge that the problem exists, Andy Lord - the Commissioner of Transport for London, the highest ranking transport (how we get around in our city) official in London (we pay his extortionate salary) has set about attempting to discredit them! He lied that LFG were creating the graffiti for the cameras and then removing it. He smeared them as criminals! The good people at LFG! Criminals? Surely not!!
Lawrence Newport - a petty criminal and media whore?
Lawrence - I did not see it coming from you, your behind-the-scenes life of petty crime, LFG all a front so you could go about wreaking havoc in London with your graffity-ing and your littering on the street, your only desire being to have your mug captured by the media lenses. A media and attention whore. What a devil you are behind those sparkly eyes and childlike vision of hope. What a naughty boy you are in fact. You must turn around bare-arsed to let Andy can spank your bottom for being so naughty.
Lord, Andy - the owner of the truth?
Or so Andy sees it. “There’s no graffiti!” he bellows. “Your eyes and ears are wrong!” he argues. “All of you idiot members of the public have faulty eyesight and hearing” he suggests. Andy has a monopoly on the truth as it relates to transportation infrastructure in London. The information which constitutes facts is Andy’s alone to determine. Andy's eyes and ears alone are the only reliable set. What would anyone else know. Andy does not stop to think.
Lord, Andy - £639,164 package money well spent?
I understand the logic of salary packages, obviously the person at the top should earn the most, or should they? Is this obvious at all? Is there a direct corollary or link between salary and organisational power? In theory there is no need for this, this is pure ego. If Andy was a patriot, he would be passionate about delivering transportation services for the people of London to enable us to go about our days. He would work for free.
Lord, Andy - valued 3.7x more than the Prime Minister of the UK - what is his vision?
Why is this man in post? If not financially in deficit (I'm sure he will be due an annual increase soon), he is clearly morally in deficit? Who hired him? Why? What was his vision? What was his strategy? Is he delivering it? Was this, pissing all over TfL's reputation and history and to promote lying the vision he was hired to deliver? Now with several different vigilante groups highlighting different aspects of the tapestry of Andy's failures across his remit and responsibilities including LFG and the Honourable Member for Newark Mr. Jenrick. As well as being immoral, is Andy also incompetent?
Sadiq - is Andy delivering his vision?
From a quick search it looks like our wonderful, dedicated, noble, elected Mayor of London who has spent so many years protecting our health from the scourge of air pollution (a noble effort), building homes for Londoners, enabling us to get around more efficiently and highlighting and correcting historic and current injustices.
Sadiq - might you consider signing LFG's petition?
Sadiq hired him, Sadiq - do you have power to fire him mate? Do you think lying is bad? Perhaps you could sign LFG's petition and make this clear to Andy as well in his performance review? Perhaps in line with your own legacy, this is another injustice which is within your power to tackle?
Public servants? Public service?
Is Andy a public servant? A man who has dedicated his life to working for public good?
LFG's audacity to ask for data
And how does LFG respond to such smears? They ask for the data, they question themselves, perhaps they did graffiti the trains and are suffering from a memory lapse? Surely, TFL would have data to back up such a claim? As it happens the data does not exist. For TFL have lied to the public, to smear a campaign group. We have much urgent work to do.
A role for the Church of England?
I issue an urgent appeal to the Church of England - to set up a space for the sinners, with a particular focus on reaching out to the administrative leaders of public (and public adjacent) organisations so they have a safe space within which they can reflect on their behaviour which will hopefully lead to repenting for their sins and completion of penance with the full support of the church.
Is the Church of England functioning?
Is the Church of England functioning? It would appear not. They seek to use donations provided by parishioners to repair churches and to reallocate these donations for reparations for slavery. Illegal under charity law. Can’t we grow the pie instead? Can’t we give the people with valid claims of past injustices something new as a gift as our way to atone? A collaboration? A coming together of nations? A gift of knowledge and/or tools? Would this not be a more well-received gift than pieces of paper that are designed to lose their value with each passing day and which makes the gift-giver weaker and less able to provide future gifts? What are the best gifts anyone has ever given to you? Are they the ones someone has bought off the shelf, or the ones people have put a lot of thought into about what you would like and what you need, perhaps they even made it from scratch? Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime. Surely it’s the moral thing to do to build rather than buy?
Archbishop Rory Stewart?
If the Church of England is not functioning, perhaps the high priest Rory Stewart with his immutable and admirable morals may be an appropriate candidate to lead the Church in restoring its one time glory?
Andy - please apologise so we can move on
I would go a step further than LFG and suggest that if Andy does not apologise then he should resign. Are there no good people of honest character in the UK to lead TFL? I, might suggest to put the homeless people in charge, the homeless British people I spoke with on my way home on Thursday night at Victoria Station on my way back after the LFG event, the homeless British people I spoke with in Oxford Street the week before that, and the homeless British people I spoke with locally in the same week. For the homeless British people, know the streets of London which they roam and the importance of getting home safely more than any other group. For they have none. 1 year of Andy's salary would pay my mortgage off, this is corruption and state failure.
Andy relieving himself all over the ideals of TfL
The tube - the first underground railway system in the world. Mass transportation to enable people to go about their days and their business. Now, its honour, dragged through the mud by Andy. With baseless lies. Andy has attempted to use the Cruciatus curse on the good people at LFG but the curse has backfired and now it is Andy who faces the effects of the Cruciatus curse. One does not enjoy seeing another human being tortured in any context. Andy must apologise so his torture can end, for the torture inflicted by Cruciatus curse gets more and more intense the longer it goes on. I don't think LFG will let this one go - so Andy, there are your options mate, apologise or feel the increasing heat as the temperature goes up.
A cell for Andy in Azkaban
He requires a life sentence in Azkaban unless he has been cursed under the Imperius curse, in which case he is also a victim. Based on what I know of this torrid episode, I cannot but question his character and if it were in my power, I would give him a priority ticket to the confession box with Rory. I wish you the best Andy, get well soon. God loves all of his children.
Might Andy consider apologising?
The good people at LFG make two asks. The first, is an apology. That sounds pretty reasonable to me. How can there be forgiveness without acknowledgment of wrongdoing? I do wonder whether our rulers have lost the ability to be humble enough to recognise and admit when they have done wrong and acknowledge it? Is it their character? Or are they in a daze of delusion? Do they truly believe the words they say? Or are they acting on some other impulse?
Are we humble? Are we moral? Are we competent?
If it is as I fear, that they have lost sight of right and wrong for personal illness, lack of education and greed reasons, as public servants, we should expect them to get it back tout de suite.
Restoring the Social Contract
It is my personal belief that humility after wrongdoing is a fundamental precondition to restore the social contract between the rulers, the proles and us proles amongst ourselves. Right, and wrong - who remembers that?
“Lying Is Bad”
The second ask from the good people at LFG is to agree on values. They would like an acknowledgment that lying is bad.
Why would anyone of good character think that lying is good?
This request to acknowledge that lying is bad/wrong also sounds quite reasonable to me? Surely, only those themselves who engage in lying and deceit, would think otherwise?

Keir - can you sign this one? Seems pretty uncontroversial?
Keir - can you sign it in good faith with and add your name to valid cause? It is but a digital form, so unfortunately, one would not see another example of your lovely penmanship as evidenced in your note to lovely Angela. Surely we can all agree that lying is bad?

What is marketing? Why did Alastair translate marketing into spin?
As far as I understand marketing (for I, am no marketeer - I have not studied the texts so please check my words with a scholar), it’s supposed to be about identifying, communicating and satisfying value. How we tell our stories, it’s not supposed to be about pretending that value exists where none does. A truly valuable proposition stands by its own merits, it should not be necessary to lie about it. In a society, where we care about each other and love each other - why would we seek to mislead each other? It simply does not make sense!!!! I checked the theory with AI. I checked AI’s response with other humans, I think there is a consensus on this. It simply doesn’t add up!!! Why are we lying, lying, lying?
I argue that lying is not just bad, but lying is wrong
Personally, I have no qualms with agreeing to this simple request from LFG so I added my name to the list. Lying is not how Britain was built. It was through honesty, truth, fearless leadership and determination. While I am not a man of the cloth, I would go a step further than LFG and suggest that lying is not just bad, but that it is wrong. God made me a man with an interest in science which implies an interest in the truth. So without a second thought I have no hesitation but to align myself with LFG on this matter. Lying is bad.
Can TfL just do its job?
So why would TFL lie? What is it exactly that they are attempting to hide or preserve? Failure? Status? Brand? Greed? What about, safe, clean, effective, quick, modern public transportation? Perhaps that is a goal which Andy could focus on?
“We’re Not Stupid” - a newsflash to the rulers
Newsflash to the rulers: we’re not stupid, you do not have a monopoly on truth, we have eyes and ears and we can see, hear and sometimes smell (see Birmingham) failures all around us.
A point for LFG to ponder
Here’s where I (possibly) disagree with pretty criminal extraordinaire Lawrence.
Lawrence, argue against this, or clarify your position?
Looking for Growth essentially attempts to get around or provoke the existing machine into taking action. It attempts to provoke the machine into action.
End of life of the machine and the OS but not the ideals
Over the last several months in particular based on my lived experience, I have come to the conclusion that the operating system (software) that the users (workers in public and public adjacent institutions) of the machine (approach to governance and decision making and public resources) are using to attempt to deliver the system (democracy) has reached its end of life. To the extent that the system has essentially come to a halt.
Good luck Shabana https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/clyl20gw4y2o.
There’s still a few sputters of life here and there but the machine itself needs to go in the (appropriate) recycling bin.
“Retirement-Home Energy”
At the event - Liv Boeree, the professional poker player and general good vibes girlie, said that Europe and the UK have a distinct air of “retirement home energy”. This is so true. Has assisted dying been legalised yet? If so, we have a good first candidate here for the chop. Not the system itself, and certainly not the ideals of the institutions. Just the machine and the OS.
Government - stop licking windows
We have insane technology in the private sector and the government are at a stand still with their tongues out licking windows and telling the proles the wind tastes good.
Swapping debate, truth and science for equality of ideas
Equalities laws are noble where they are based around anti-discrimination. Employment law must enable public institutions to function. In the same way that in raising a child an adult must have the power, in the same way that in school, the teacher has the power, an employer must have the power to direct their employees to deliver a company's objectives. If something is preventing this from happening, this is what would be described as a poorly designed law. Institutions and companies should be able to function within the constraints of the law.
All ideas are not equal - the truth exists
Keep the Ideals; Rebuild the Machine
The machine has had its time, it has got us so far. We need a new machine with a different OS to ensure the overall system and the institutions/users survive. We can upgrade from a Commodore PET to something new, that we will have to build. The OS is ready, but we need to build the machine. Not in a sudden, jerky way, but in a managed, orderly fashion.
Britain built the world - let's remember that?
This is good news!!
We can build it mate!! We built the world!! This is mad easy compared to that.
Tech as the New OS, we need to build the machine
The new OS is called the tech industry. Not IT, IT has its place on managing transitions but tech is different. Products and platforms. APIs. Cloud computing. Serverless architectures. Lambda functions. Product management. User experience. Relevant integrations with third parties. Has anyone heard of Uber? Or Airbnb? Or Amazon? Or Facebook? Or Google? They seem to have done some crazy things that changed (I would argue improved - but with external costs which we should seek to minimise) our lives in dramatic and impactful ways. Imagine, touching a piece of glass in the right places and a car arrives!! Isn’t that just the most marvellous, astounding thing? Science, engineering and art all in one, designed with human ingenuity.
The future is here - and the government is attempting to govern and is observably failing with the technologies of the past
The future is here! Flying robots (drones), revolutions in genetics to improve our health, machines to capture solar energy on our rooftops and move it into our cars so we can get on with our business? Is this not a miracle to be embraced, fully and responsibly?
What is tech?
Tech is about building the right thing to solve a problem.
The role of IT vs. the role of tech
IT gives you functional tools to do things, tech gives you a product which people want which solves their problems in intuitive ways. Agile development, user testing (check if what you built works for the user and adapt/learn) delivered in an incremental way is the key difference compared to IT “waterfall” projects. Why do so many IT projects fail? Because they attempt to deliver all at once without incremental testing. They get it wrong. They misunderstand what people need and want so they design the software wrong. They don’t put themselves in the position of the users and truly listen to them to understand their painpoints. They tell the users what they’ve come up with based on a loose understanding. They give it to them and they expect them to be happy with what they receive. And they charge them a fortune because they have swarms of project managers updating gantt charts.
IT and Tech related to control theory
What is control theory? Population control? Fuck no, it's maths!! It makes sure that what we expect to be delivered (value) is actually delivered in reality by checking (measuring) and adapting the controllable input signals (pass feedback from the observable outcome back to the changeable inputs) based on an understanding of how the system works (characteristics) to try to get the desired outcome. Tech listens to the users and validates that the software solution that is delivered truly solves the problems of the users. Tech keeps backlogs of user needs not yet tackled or prioritised to ensure that no information is lost. To ensure everyone is heard. Product management is essentially journalism (listening, questioning & validating) and customer service (making sure you have happy customers), done well it can be invaluable. Done poorly, you’ve just added to bureaucracy and waste. To ensure it’s done well, I believe it needs to take a scientific approach. Sorry non-science based product managers, eep I'm getting myself in trouble.
In control theory, IT vs. tech is the difference between having an “open loop” system and a “closed loop” system. Do we check that what is delivered actually works? IT does not, tech does. An example of a difference between a closed loop vs. an open loop system is the difference between a net zero warrior “going to a protest against Rosebank” and people who actually do something to deliver action for climate. Virtue signalling is an example of an open loop system, we create an input (bullshit) and don't bother to think about how it propagates through the system and what outcome it leads to. But it makes people feel good about themselves despite the observable reality on outcomes that they are talking total nonsense. You don't get to have an opinion on science. Don't follow the science, question the science, critique the science, question the scientists who may have intrinsic biases, test an alternative hypothesis to attempt to disprove something. If you don't have the skills to do this, you have no place offering any viewpoints on science. Stop it. You're polluting the debate with nonsense to make yourself feel like you are doing something. You are making things worse.
Fat dead/dying obese donkeys to get around vs. electric sports cars in China
We’re running the country on a fat dead donkey lying in a pool of its own coagulated blood and s**t and China’s rolling in an electric sports car that it designed and built itself from concept through to manufacturing to delivery.
Resurrection as Metaphor
But life after death is possible [Ref: Jesus]. The resurrection. While the soul may or may not yet have left the donkey (hard to tell), the memories and the knowledge remain, there’s enough heat left to download it. We can use our wands and take the memories from our temples and store them in the pensieve and look back at them later in full vivid clarity as if they happened today. This is the responsible thing to do to ensure the memories and the knowledge contained within them survive. We cannot bring the donkey back to life. We have the technology to do this today efficiently and effectively. Today, Fawkes looks old and ragged in Dumbledore’s office. Dumbledore is smiling. One of the greatest, if not the greatest wizards of all time trusts this natural cycle of death and rebirth. For he trusts, for he has faith, for he knows that even if he wanted to, there is nothing he can do to interrupt this natural cycle of life and death. He trusts the process.
It's easy to do this?
We have the data backed up from the old machine (obese death bed donkey covered in blood and s**t), we can transfer it across to the new machine in a managed way. The users will need training on the new operating system and the machine. Some may not like it, and that’s OK. But we must remember what a government is about, is it about ensuring that public money is spent responsibly and the people’s priorities are met, or is it about ensuring that the administrators get to have a preference on the machine and OS that they use? Would employment law prevent this? Amend it. Rulers - we expect you to do this in a strong, informed, and ruthless way for the people are in pain. I believe democracy is a good system. Certainly better than being in a dictatorship or under rule of a military coup. I fear very much that we are risking democracy unnecessarily.
Call the Engineers
Who do you call when the oven’s broken? The lawyers? The doctors? The judges? The priest? The scientists? The secretary?
No mate - you call the engineers!!!!! The engineers fix things or we make new things. The builders bro. The builders build. That’s what we are trained for!! Building and fixing, that’s it. We’re not good for much else. Engineering is “the art of approximation”. We are trained to be creative and deploy problem solving approaches to create solutions for problems that exist in the real world (or problems that we think might be coming later - if you guys could get your act together, we could do more of this). We’ve built the whole world. Everything in it. All done by engineers. The artists create art. The scientists create knowledge. Engineers create both.
Listen to Engineers
Don’t “listen to the scientists”, that’s a nonsense (see COVID sledgehammer to crack a nut approach) they’re too slow and they’re too pernickety for real world things. They focus on theory, not practice. They don’t understand uncertainty and probability. Listen to the engineers. Let the scientists get on with their research in their labs so we can fix, renew and grow, today and into the future.
Battle of Ideas Snapshot
The problem we have is highlighted most vividly by the discussion topics of Battle of Ideas which I was fortunate to attend on Sunday past. GB News, today’s de facto public-services broadcaster, was there. I made Patrick Christys aware of my work and also some members of the House of Lords and others. I'm on this and it's real. I saw Patrick's very new very cute baby in a kangaroo strap thing. Where were the BBC? At a debate forum — where was the public-services broadcaster? Lethargic and absent. Battle of Ideas and GB News are not hateful organisations; in fact the opposite, they are motivated by love, and it’s beautiful. Honesty, authenticity, truth. For public good.
A Tidal Wave of Innovation
There is a tidal wave of innovation and growth and it is ready to break at the shores of the UK. Venture Café London play a key role. It’s genuinely an extremely exciting time to be in the UK if you choose to see it that way. Growth!!
Smarter than GDP growth
I would argue, the type of growth that we should aim for is not blind increases in Gross Domestic Product (GDP), as I believe we can be so much smarter. We have data now. Real-time data. Obviously we want growth!! We always should seek to grow.
What Kind of Growth?
But what is the growth we are talking about? Growth of our fingernails? Of our hair? Of our height? Of our bank balances? Of mould in social housing to cause children’s health issues? Of crime statistics? Of terrorist ideologies? Of a loss of public trust? Of the poll statistics for a particular political party?
Redefine growth - and relentlessly go for growth and save the planet!!
I have some suggestions for the kind of growth that we should aim for. Growth in learning. Growth in knowledge. Growth in insight. Growth in kindness. Growth in civility. Growth in happiness. Growth in tolerance. Growth in humanity. Growth in using our resources more efficiently. Growth in technology and system efficiency.
Growth in the reduction of poverty. Growth in the reduction of inequality.
Growth in the reduction of crime. Growth in the reduction of corruption.
Growth in transparency. Growth in inclusion. Growth in diversity of thought.
Growth in innovation. Growth in entrepreneurship. Growth in democracy. Growth in society.
Redefine growth which opens the door to alignment with the degrowth people
By redefining growth from a narrow increase in total GDP, we can align the proper climate science people with the economic, tech and entrepreneurship warriors. We can eliminate the need to have a false debate which will inevitably arise due to semantics. All the degrowth people are saying is that we can't keep wrecking the planet or we will literally die eventually or most of us will anyway. Wars all across the world for resources. Nukes inevitably come out at some point. Do ours actually work...hmm. Hopefully the US will help. The end of civilisation as we know it. The beginning of a whole new history. I like the history we have already. I like the future. I'm a tech bro so I want to do science-y things to help people (and again, make hella dolla).
Question for Lawrence - what is your growth definition
What is the definition of growth you guys are pushing for? If you don't have one might you consider some of the above my fellow academic?
Revenue Growth? Debt and Responsibility
But economically, do we want/need revenue growth? Yes!! Our debt is spiralling, we need to pay it down. Money? You mean pieces of paper? Backed by a physical asset or not? Or digital money? Crypto? Bitcoin? Britcoins? IOTA? Whatever!! We just need to pay it down. It is immoral to expect children who aren’t born yet to be saddled with debt which we pissed up the wall through waste, inefficiency, incompetence and lying. We cast the Cruciatus curse on ourselves every day. I would need to get the army on side first (who get a rough deal) but it's not unreasonable to think that at some point some of the tech people will just hold independent elections like completely create a whole new implementation of the system because the current implementation is so incompetent (again, not the people (need skills and thinking update) - but the processes, technologies and tools).
On Money Systems
What about the money systems? The bond market, the central banks, the private banks, the OBR. Should we default on our debt? Absolutely not!! We must pay the interest on our debt because we are people of our word. And who would lend to us again? The thieves!! Trick me once, shame on you. Trick me twice, shame on me.
The critical role of financial markets
Financial markets and banks pretty much have their shit together - stocks and shares, FX, bonds, pretty much makes sense. Investors and access to capital to build things, story checks out.
Not coming for your money guys dw I'm trying to help you too.
Take Back Control
We must take back control. If Britain falls, what hope does the rest of the Western world have of defending democracy? Where Britain leads, others follow. Rule Britannia, rule!
Stop being fake woke - let's be proper woke
Let's fix poverty, homelessness, incompetence and corruption
We can be really woke. Not fake-woke like we do today, but woke-woke. Woke to societal inequalities and social injustices and seek to take action to correct them. We can look at the scourge of inequality in society today and address the root causes. Eliminate corruption. Promote love. Make sure the house survives the storm.
Why Britain Can’t Grow
Why is it that Britain can’t grow? It’s because we are in our own way.
Can Public Institutions Reform Themselves without an external push?
To be frank — I don’t believe public institutions are capable of reforming themselves from within. Not because they’re bad people (which they’re not, they just need a mindset shift) but due to a lack of knowledge and terrible, gaslighting leaders. The world has moved and developed around public institutions and they have not noticed. They were busy filling in paperwork. If I was in charge (which for the record I have absolutely no desire to be — I care too much and I’d never sleep, I just want to do tech and chill), there is quite a lot I would seek to do. Since I do not have this desire, instead I pass my ideas on to those who are in the hope they are listening.
Why Start with the Public Sector?
So… public-sector reform. Why start there? Well, the public sector performs a few functions that are critically important if we want to grow based on my proposed definition, frankly they are a blocker. To develop things of benefit to society, we often would need to go through a public institution (a university or innovation grant) which needs engagement, and then when we seek to deliver things, it is public policy which shapes how this is possible. Whether it is top down blunt laws and regulations to constrain clearly societally beneficial ideas, or the economic model which does not enable profitable rates of return or attractive, or taxation policy which either directly disincentivises entrepreneurship or is clunky on admin, the economy exists to support society not to circumvent it.
Fawkes in Dumbledore's Office Is No Pigeon
I believe with my whole heart that the United Kingdom’s operating machine and operating system is not a crow, nor a pigeon, nor an owl, but a phoenix. It must survive so that its tears can once again heal others who are hurting, others who are weaker, others who are in pain. So it can swoop in to protect and defend those who need them when the peril is at its most severe and the night looks darker than ever, as it did for Harry in the Chamber of Secrets faced with evil Tom Riddle and the Basilisk — a memory stored as a horcrux in a book which can summon a snake through a language only some can speak. I believe the United Kingdom holds the Elder Wand in this world of good and evil. The most powerful wand ever made. It should not break its own wand when it has the power to fight its enemies. But Dumbledore cannot fight alone; he needs everyone on his side.
United We Stand
United we stand, divided we fall.
We Don't Need to Forget Anything
We can take the donkey's memories and knowledge from the pensieve and place them against our own temples. Life after death. We have the technology to do the data transfer now. It will be different, but it can actually be better. Donkey 2.0. Robo-donkey. Now with added wings and the donkey’s been on a diet. Bulging abs, popping pecs, packing c***, hooves shining and a big old set of teeth that spit poison and whispers Avada Kedavra to those who seek to do us harm. Leapfrog the US, the EU and China. A dragon. A dragon breathing out fire in the colours of the Union Jack.
Put the Brexit debate to bed - once and for all, don't just hide it
Brexit freedoms and dividends realised. Finally, we can put the Brexit debate to bed. Help the EU, stop selling all our stuff to China to get a few quid in, defend Ukraine and the Baltics at any cost. If required I will pull on army gear and head to Estonia and Latvia but hopefully we won't let things get to that point. But we must be fighting fit in case this is required. We must do this. It's fundamental.
Private sector - you need to change to
So why single out the public sector? The mission does not. The problems in the private sector are acute as well - an organisational culture around a language which, frankly, the misison doesn't really understand. Gen Z are laughing at us.
A race between a dead donkey and an electric sports car
We’re in a race guys, and we’re trying to kick a dead donkey back into life. We look like mega-plebs bro. Stone age men. Neanderthals about to get taken over by the homo sapiens.
Change or Stay the Same?
Is that what we want to do or do we want to stay the same even if it’s not working?
Which Camp Are You In?
Which camp are you in?
Reforming vs Transforming
What’s the difference between reforming and transforming?
Transformation Isn’t Always Scary
“Transformation” might sound scary, but it does not need to be. It really depends what we are transforming into.
Transfiguration or Werewolf?
Transformation can be transfiguration, like Maggie Smith turning into a beautiful cat, independent, tame and smart but defensive with claws and whiskers. Or, it could be something scary, or perhaps uncontrollable like poor Prof. Lupin turning into a werewolf out of his control.
On Control and Transformation
The thing about transformation is that it’s not within the same structure or framework of what already exists. It’s a complete change — the caterpillar to the butterfly, not the caterpillar learning to crawl faster. Reform operates within a boundary; transformation redraws it. Reform asks, “How can we make this work better?” Transformation asks, “Why does this exist at all, and what should replace it?” The fear of transformation is natural — it threatens familiarity — but sometimes the familiar itself becomes the danger.
Reform vs Transform (Table)
| Aspect | Reforming | Transforming |
|---|---|---|
| Meaning | To improve or correct something that already exists. | To fundamentally change the nature, structure, or identity of something. |
| Depth of change | Usually incremental or within the existing framework. | Usually radical or systemic, creating a new framework. |
| Goal | To make the system work better or more fairly. | To make the system something entirely different — to reinvent it. |
| Analogy | Like renovating a house — keeping the structure but improving the rooms. | Like demolishing and rebuilding the house with a new design. |
| Examples | “Reforming education” might mean updating the curriculum or exams. | “Transforming education” might mean replacing schools with new models of learning. |
| Tone | Often pragmatic, focused on fixes. | Often visionary, focused on re-imagining. |
The TL;DR
So:
- Reform = fix what’s broken.
- Transform = replace it with something new.
A Bifurcated Society
Today, we have a bifurcated society — with “the left” being a mix of non-science following, ultimately these people are just pissed off at the system because they are getting a rough deal. And who could blame them! The place is shit!
Policy Failing Its Own Ideals
This is not an effective way to deliver policy objectives around decarbonisation of the economy, to promote energy grid security and to deliver energy price affordability. Today’s energy and carbon religions fail on all of their own ideals and notably, entirely forget why the energy system exists: to enable people and businesses to do things they choose to do.
Why Reform Isn’t Enough
It’s not sufficient to simply reform because policy has drifted so far from system reality. Conservatism tenets bears little resemblance to today’s energy and carbon policies. Labour tenets of valuing work needs to recognise that there are now many new forms of work over and above in in the trades. So we can’t conserve our way from where . We must be green to steward the planet and conserve it for the next generations. We must be liberal because we live in a democracy and we don’t want to risk that system and enable autocrats.
The System Changed in the 90s
The system has changed guys, back in the 90s mate. The internet bruv, it changed everything. Now we have cloud computing, serverless architectures, robotics and . We don’t need IT systems anymore, we can build tech bro!!!! It’s super easy now with AI. I built this platform in a couple of weeks!! And I’m adding to it every day, I move my fat fingers and
Keyboard Caps

The victims
Politicians - do not be naive - the current system implementation is a disgusting, hurtful, hateful approach with victims across society. When I visited my great aunt (my granny's sister) the week before last who is in her 80s and constant pain, I could tell she was sad. Sad at the state of the country. Sad at the nonsense being spoken in public and in talking shops in the media. You abandoned critical thinking quite some time ago. A few years ago my friend Toma Moldovan from Romania took his own life at your hands. Completely and totally hopeless about the future. A skilled electrician, a lovely, lovely, lovely, personable man who always followed the rules and listened to jazz music and was just trying to get on in life. Killed himself. At your hands. My friends cannot get on the property ladder, they can barely pay their bills. And you fuck £22,000,000,000 into Carbon Capture and Storage - [a technology which does not and is highly unlikely to ever work] (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MSZgoFyuHC8). This is the epitome of the failure of government. You have children living in poverty, and you fuck £22bn away on a technology which does not work so you can virtue signal and play happy families in your political party based on ego and ambition. This disgusts me and every fibre of my being.
Why is the working class and businesses paying for everyone?
For the record, visitors are welcome, but don't wreck the gaff during your visit. Mate: let me tell you what's happening in the country. You have all the smart people (ADHD🙋♂️) on welfare because they can't cope with how stupid and nonfunctioning the system is, you've got malaise and groupthink in the public institutions that govern them. And the working class and business are paying for everyone!! Are you mad. Fix it.
The system is creating the mental health problems of the population
Has there been a sudden change in the genetics of the British populace? A mutation perhaps? Causing a spike in neurodivergence? Wouldn't that be marvellous if so? A whole new generation of those who can think divergently? Or, has the economy been so nonfunctioning that young people can't get decent jobs and they're so frustrated by the system which is creating the problem and observably lying to them that they have observable and understandable mental health symptoms? Anxiety, worry about the future, hopeless, depressed? That would seem quite a reasonable response to most people.
Wake Up
You are on the verge of having anarchy on the streets of Britain. We could be one more rape of a British child by an illegal migrant who has broken into the country (perhaps with a valid case - safe and legal routes for asylum seekers please, ) or a legal migrant from a different civilisation incompatible with British values away from societal unrest. If you continue to gaslight me that somehow Digital ID for legal citizens and residents is going to help with border control I will take to the streets. I've never gone to a protest before. This is my final straw. Stop lying. There are lots of good arguments to make around why Digital ID might be helpful (we effectively already have multiple) but your systems are so broken this would inevitably lead to probably the biggest scandal in British history - forget the Post Office scandal, Grenfell, Windrush, infected blood, Waspi women, the Hillsborough disaster - you are probably about to attempt to force through what will inevitably become the biggest scandal in British history whether through a cyber-security attack or simply pure incompetence from an official. You are not set up to deliver this. Let's have the debate on it properly in an informed way, let people decide. Make the case for it. As a tech guy, there are so many good arguments for it on efficiency, none of them are border control. You. Are. Lying. And as my friends at LFG led by the accused petty criminal Lawrence argue, lying is bad -> sign the petition: https://lookingforgrowth.uk/lyingisbad/.

What is government supposed to be?
Well, I think it’s supposed to represent society. I quite like parliamentary democracy; I think it makes sense.
And then we ask the government to fund a range of public services for us — things that we value and that we are willing to pay tax to fund.
What's government supposed to do?
Free education? Yes please!! An educated society is a society with.
Free healthcare? Yes please!! A healthy society is a society with resilience.
Welfare when we fall on hard times?
Energy policy to ensure our systems have the resilience for the challenges to come and to support? Yes please!!
Courts to pass judgment based on the law? Yes please!! Lawrence — watch out mate if you keep up your spree of crime!
Police to keep our streets safe? Yes please!!
Equalities law? Yes please!! Well implemented and well-designed equalities laws to ensure we are not discriminated against — that sounds like a noble idea.
Security? An army? Abso-f***ing-lutely!! Border control? If a country has open borders, it’s not a country at all. Soon Brighton and Bristol may erect their own walls around their borders on the current trajectory.
The United Kingdom could have an internal border war with Brighton and Bristol; I believe we have already imported enough of the fault lines of international conflicts to our shores. I don’t believe we should encourage replication of the same conflicts into the UK. A civil war.
What does a government in a a parliamentary democracy need to function effectively?
Well, with the money they raise...it often needs to be in listening mode to ensure that it makes decisions in line with the priorities of the people. It has to collect money in taxation from taxpayers (Stripe link?). .
How is government supposed to work?
Government is supposed to deliver the priorities of the people. Listen to the people
Where does the money raised in taxation go?
Taxation (incomings) and spending (outgoings) are obviously linked, but we're missing the trick. Accounting was my first love in school. I got straight As across the board (like in every other subject as well). Economists misunderstand that the goal is not to "raise money" so there's enough to "spend it", it doesn't need to be run as a business for profit (should not be the goal of the public sector) but it's not unreasonable to expect there to be a system which shows where the money is going. The health of the country - to ensure that. While the UK collects taxation. I want to see a live dashboard which shows the money coming in and money going. It's not unreasonable to imagine this would work (links to POS terminals in businesses to auto-collect VAT (I think it may also be wrong philosophically to tax consumption at the end, I think we should be taxing materials (working thought)) but this is a little bit more difficult.
Government balance sheet
We need to know what our unfunded liability is so we can tackle it and aim to reduce it. Presumably this is reasonably simple to do if we have a government payroll system linked to . I don't think we need quangos if we have a competent and smart civil service and an effective approach to the delivery of regulation (should be digitalised and automated).
A dare to Keir - the hard bastard
I DARE you Keir, are you a hard enough bastard for this?!!! https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/ckg5dgr4mepo.
Hire ethical hackers to preserve system integrity
prevent the system from breaking by systematically identifying
What’s the worst that could happen?
See what Steven Barrett the young whippersnapper (love you Steven) is doing in his company? He’s hired people to destroy it from within — to find the gaps, what they could be doing better.
This is smart thinking! After doing all those interviews (listening to people), it’s not really surprising.
Compliment to Keir
I actually do think you’re pretty hard mate behind those flashy specs!!
Slavery Metaphor
Britain honourably led the world in abolishing slavery in 1807, only now to sleepwalk into reintroducing it. I’m a little concerned the extent to which the government are leaning into this, but I’m willing to believe it is for politicking reasons rather than having nefarious goals. People are surviving; they are not living.
Not an Alternative Government - just a new computer with different software to ensure
Am I proposing an alternative government?
Absolutely not!!
This is simply an innovation hub — 10 software developers and maybe 10 proper product managers and a couple of UX designers based in a co-working space in Old Street (where the start-up community is based). Rachel can probably manage to find a few quid for this; if she can’t pull back the £22 bn on Carbon Capture and Storage that Ed pissed up the wall since the technology does not work. I reckon we only would need about £5 m for a year’s operations. You want to see what can be done if we move fast? Mate, you won’t believe your eyes!!
A Lightweight Delivery Model
A lead to the ministers in each department — someone in the civil service in each department with a detailed overview of what the department does or is supposed to do. Interviews between the workers and the product managers to understand pain points so work can be streamlined.
National Renewal Now
National renewal? This is it mate!! Get your 10 years in power mate, get your legacy bro!! Make a start!
Digital ID does nothing bro! You’ve lost the dressing room mate — but you can get it back!!
Save What Matters
End decline. Save Britain. Save Brighton. Save Bristol. Be more Bristol, but not too much more. Restore the Union. Save the West. Save Democracy. Save Ukraine. Save the Baltics. Save the Jews. Save us all.
A PM’s Legacy
What a legacy that would be — the Prime Minister who delivered national renewal based on his election commitment to do so.
An inspired visionary who fundamentally fixed Britain with a message of unity.
Inspire, Lead, Innovate
Do this — and the United Kingdom will rightly inspire, lead and innovate on a scale that you can barely imagine.
Optimising for What?
What are we optimising for? Is it minimising distress? Is it giving jobs to different “wings” of a political party? Is it doing what’s best for the country?
Is a referendum needed to update the government's computer?
A referendum to simply update the government's computers? To upgrade them to deliver more efficiently in line with the priorities of the British people using modern technology? Why would that be in any way a controversial topic? The people are SCREAMING on both sides and no one in government is listening. This lets you listen.to.the.people. Listen. Listen. Listen more. Listen better. Listen harder.
Off the Quicksand
We need to get off the quicksand, move to solid ground and start to build at pace, for we are in a race, and we are losing. Brexit enables us to do a lot that we could not do when in the European Union.
The Wave Is Here
The wave is coming mate — it’s here in fact. You cannot hold back a wave.
Redundancy and a Floor Income
Would this not make a lot of people redundant? Quite possibly — pay them universal income as a floor income. Not welfare, not means-tested, just money the government gives to people to be free. Because in a society, we care about people.
On Transformations (Personal)
What type of transformations are possible? Well, for me, as a mere muggle, sadly I cannot perform any physical transformations on my physical presentation (apart from going to the gym — though increasingly there are a range of interventionist surgeries available to me: Brazilian butt lifts, Ozempic and Botox). If I were somehow to find out that I am in fact a squib and an animagus (not sure if possible — JK, can you confirm?), I believe I would be a wolf. Untameable, fierce. A pack animal — strong, with a keen sense of smell and hearing, a double-layered coat for insulation, and always ready to fight for survival where I fear it is at risk. For there are many ways to die.
Slavery, Curses, and Shame
While the UK outlawed capital punishment in 1965 (same year my mum was born), today there is widespread slavery across Britain. Most people are slaves. I’m resisting it as best I can, for I do not wish to die. The slave owner is the system itself overseen by Mr Starmer. The British people, Britons never, never, never will be slaves. The people, “left” and “right”, are all slaves to the system. But slaves have opportunities to revolt, where slaves are sufficient in number, and before the weapons of the rulers become too great or too powerful. Slaves in their collective form can overthrow the rulers. Today, the slaves have shoes. The slaves have laptops. The slaves have voices. The slaves have the power. But they need to come together and speak with one voice.
Today the rulers execute the Cruciatus Curse against their own people — it tortures them. Is the state acting under the Imperius Curse? Wand fire is everywhere — spells are rebounding, Avada Kedavra Jihad Al-Shamie whispers, and it echoes and it echoes and it echoes and it continues to echo. We are killing the Jews. In Britain, today. How can we look in the mirror? I feel deeply, deeply ashamed. And if my words have any power, I say sorry to the Jews in Britain with every fibre of my being.
Expectations of Rulers
We don’t expect our rulers to be animagi, for they (as far as I know) are also mere muggles. But we do expect them to be able to transform; character is real.
Animagus Archetypes
Sirius Black → Dog — loyal, protective, pack-minded.
Peter Pettigrew → Rat — sneaky, self-serving, cowardly.
James Potter → Stag — noble, proud, and courageous.
Is this a "difficult decision" for the Prime Minister?
We often hear Sir Keir speaking about not being afraid to make difficult decisions on our air waves, on our television sets and sadly not through TikTok (not sure Labour UK have realised this exists - there's a free one for you mates). The decisionA new computer? An update? An upgrade to deliver the priorities of the people in a more efficient way? For Keir to have a legacy of national renewal?
Surely this would not be a difficult decision for the Prime Minister of the UK?
Let's start with fixing the energy market
Bro - I've got it bro. But we should get on with doing the other stuff as well because I need the energy market to be deliverable so I need a few guys on it and I probs need to pay them or something.
Am I demanding policy changes?
Bro - would I ever do that to you? Am I the screamy-shouty type? Only if you come at me bro, then I attack and I don't mince my words. Nah bro - your policies bro that's all you. I'll just give you the data so assuming you and your Ministers are competent, logical and not political in your approach to policy making and motivated to deliver for the British people, they can make the right decisions ;-).
Closing Line to my friend Keir
Keir — your legacy, here it is. It's tech, it's AI, it's belt and braces system transformation. Those Bank of England people you brought in to undermine Rach can't help you. You need the engineers. GB 2.0. No history forgotten, simply in a new vehicle with room for everyone. The UK a hand out to help and a help up to the world. Kind, outward looking and fierce. Proudly be the centrist that you clearly are, the heir to Blair. Work with Kemi, she's smarter than you and I like her a lot. We can't wait for an election in 4 years. We might literally have a civil war by then. The donkey is dead, not the British spirit, but the approach to delivering priorities, it just doesn't work in today's dynamic and fast-changing, challenging world. Let's build GB-Robo-Dragon.
Where Britannia once ruled the seas, now by embracing tech, Britannia can rule the seas, the air, the land and space. Protect the weak, lead the way even through the storm.
There is another way. And it's pretty fucking easy and obvious.
🚢🤖🐉🔥🚢🤖🐉🔥🚢🤖🐉🔥🚢🤖🐉🔥🚢🤖🐉🔥🚢🤖🐉🔥🚢🤖🐉🔥🚢🤖🐉🔥
Britons will never be slaves. Rule Britannia, rule! Rule like you've never ruled before! With fierce determination, power, strength, peace and justice. For the late Queen Elizabeth who spoke words of Gaeilge at the Áras to end more than 500 years of deeply divisive conflict, in honour of her long, just and peaceful reign. She would expect it from today's leaders. Check with Charles if you need to, I'm pretty sure he's quite fond of the environment and the earth and stuff.

Unapologetically, let's move forward, together
Things might be hard, but our arms and legs still work, we can step off the escalator and move forward.
United we stand - divided, we fall.
Never, again.
