Mission 01
Fix the energy market.
Electricity should be abundant, affordable, clean and reliable. The system we use to coordinate it was built for another age.
Enleashed is investigating what should replace it.
Re-architect how energy is priced, procured, and coordinated across the grid.
The mission in 3 minutes
Mission briefing coming soon.
One coordination layer — the market — now has to manage large generators, renewables, batteries and storage, electric vehicles, heat pumps, and homes and businesses, instead of a small number of large power stations.
The system is fighting itself.
Britain is trying to electrify transport, heating and industry while running an electricity architecture built around a much simpler grid — and the strain is showing up everywhere at once.
Electricity is too expensive
We are trying to electrify transport, heating and industry while making electricity unnecessarily expensive.
Clean energy is being wasted
Renewable electricity can be available but unable to reach consumers efficiently because markets and networks are poorly coordinated.
The grid is becoming distributed
Millions of batteries, EVs, heat pumps, flexible devices and distributed generators are joining a system designed around relatively few large power stations.
We keep adding patches
Balancing mechanisms, capacity mechanisms, constraint management, flexibility markets, subsidies and interventions increasingly sit around the core market.
These aren't separate problems.
They are symptoms of an electricity architecture designed for a different technological age.
Understand what's brokenImagine an electricity system that…
Costs less
Cheap generation translates into affordable electricity.
Wastes nothing
Available low-cost, low-carbon electricity is used whenever physically possible.
Coordinates itself
Millions of devices can respond intelligently to the state of the system.
Rewards the right things
Investment is rewarded according to genuine system value.
Treats people fairly
Costs, scarcity and access are allocated through explicit principles rather than accidents of market design.
Gets cleaner as it grows
Electrification and decarbonisation reinforce one another economically.
So what should replace today's system?
We're not starting with the answer. Enleashed defines the problem, specifies what a good system must achieve, maps the design choices and tests competing architectures against the same criteria.

How this investigation works
Compare
- Candidate solutions
- Design positions
Each candidate takes a position on every design decision — that's what the comparison matrix shows.

- Critique & Challenge
Evidence and critique live on each candidate's own pages, not as a separate tab here.
Deliver
Think we're wrong? Good.
Enleashed isn't a manifesto looking for agreement. It's an open investigation looking for better answers.
Challenge the assumptions. Critique the candidates. Add evidence. Build something better.
