Status Report
Ofgem has a body count
This is not a thesis, or campaign, or narrative.
It is simply the situation: documented, measurable, and currently permitted.

Ofgem’s Legal Duty (Energy Act 2010, Section 3A)
“The principal objective is to protect the interests of existing and future consumers in relation to electricity, including ensuring affordability, continuity of supply, and protection of vulnerable persons.”
Cold homes, medical disconnections, and preventable deaths fall squarely under this mandate.
Cold Hard Status — Today
- • Every winter, the UK records 7,000–11,000 excess deaths linked to cold homes.
- • Around 25% of these deaths are directly attributed to fuel poverty.
- • Over 4.5 million households ration energy — switching off heating, fridges, lighting, and medical devices.
- • Prepayment customers were forcibly disconnected over 30,000 times last year.
- • Damp and mould hospital admissions have risen 34% in five years.
- • Meanwhile, major suppliers reported £4.7 billion in profit.
These figures are monitored and published annually. They are not unknown.
