A significant share of administrative work — transferring information between systems, checking forms, reconciling records, scheduling, classification, routine correspondence and data entry — is exactly the kind of work increasingly amenable to automation, given the interoperable digital infrastructure described above.
The objective is narrower than "automate government":
The intent is explicitly to remove unnecessary administrative work around frontline public services, not the human contact people value within them — more clinical time, more teaching time, more time spent on the substantive work of public service, not less human contact automated away in its place. Where automation instead reduces headcount without redirecting the released resource toward frontline capacity or measurable public value, it has not achieved what this section is arguing for, whatever its accounting effect.
