Distribution & DER
Australia is developing increasingly dynamic DER access arrangements.
Dynamic operating envelopes can communicate time-varying limits on:
- import;
- export;
- flexible connection capacity.
DER controllers can then optimise energy behaviour within those limits.
This is conceptually different from putting every local network constraint into the wholesale energy price.
The important unresolved question is how scarce network access should be allocated fairly when multiple users cannot simultaneously receive their preferred envelope.
